Beatrice

Beatrice is a offshore wind farm located in Outer Moray Firth (Scotland).

On behalf of its two funds, Copenhagen Infrastructure I and II, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) acquired 35 per cent of the Beatrice project from SSE in 2015. Copenhagen Infrastructure I owns 17.5 per cent, Copenhagen Infrastructure II 17.5 per cent, SSE 40 per cent and Red Rock Power Limited 25 per cent.

The wind farm is located in the Outer Moray Firth (Scotland) on the north western point of the Smith Bank approximately 13.5km from the Caithness coastline and has the potential to generate up to 664MW of renewable energy.

The site is approximately 11km to the north-east of the world’s first deep water wind farm development – the two-turbine (10MW) Beatrice Demonstrator Project, which has been operational since 2007 and provides power to a nearby oil production platform.

The Beatrice project is one of five offshore wind projects in the UK awarded an Investment Contract by the UK government (fixed inflation indexed settlement price for a 15 year period. The project was developed by SSE plc and Repsol S.A. The offshore wind farm was fully operational in 2019. Beatrice has been producing power to the National Grid since the installation of the first turbine mid July 2018.
