In May 2018 Vineyard Wind’s proposed 800 MW offshore wind farm won the Massachusetts tender for offshore wind energy projects. The Massachusetts Electric Distribution Companies has started negotiating contracts including a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Vineyard Wind.
Vineyard Wind is jointly owned by funds managed by the Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (50 per cent) and Avangrid/Iberdrola (50 per cent) and seeks to build the first large-scale offshore wind farm in the United States starting operations by late 2021.
The 800 MW offshore wind park with 100 turbines located 15 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts will, when operational, provide clean energy and reduce Massachusetts’ carbon emissions by over 1.6 million tons per year.
PensionDanmark is the largest investor in the CIP-funds, which owns 50 per cent of Vineyard Wind.
